Davy's Lamp

The British Chemist Sir Humphry Davy (19778 - 1829), was a brilliantly inventive acientist who suggested (among other ideas) laughing gas as an anaesthetic (first used long after his death).
He invented the miners safety lamp in 1815 and refused to patent, So that everyone might benefit quickly. others invented similar lamps, notably George Stephenson, the railway engineer.
