Benzene Ring

For years. the German chemist, Friedrich August Von Strandonitz tried to figure out how the almost were arranged in the molecule of a very important chemical, benzene. No arrangement seemed to explain benzene's properties. In 1865. he was on a horse drawn bus and fell into a semi-doze in which (according to his own account) he saw atoms whirling in a dance; suddenly, the tail end of one chain attached itself to the head end and formed a spinning ring. The "benzene ring" Is just about the best-known and most commonly used structure in the symbolic formulas of organic chemistry.
