COMIC STRIP

   The father of the modern comic strip was Rodolphe Topffer, an early 19th century Swiss illustrator and school-master. Tropffer observed that more people can read pictures than can read words - hardly a deduction worthly of dick Tracy. He went on to produce picture story books and collection of small drawing that were the. Topffer also put out collections of his drawings on oblong albums of about 100 pages . These were the precursors of the comic book.

  The first comic strip that was widely known was "Hogan's Alley", by Richard F. Outcault. It appeared in 1890s and its main character was . " The Yellow Kid" - a bald , grinning fellow dressed in a yellow nightshirt. outcault used the yellow shirt as a space to print messages. instantly popular these yellow kid strip established comics as a regular newspaper feature.
